Collaboration #201

Epistolary poem #201 By DrPrasana Kumar Dalai of India and Kristy Raines of The United States of America

DREAM WITH YOUR CHARM !

As a humming bee brings smile to bunch of white lilies
Why don’t you beam in the huge garden of my heart
The spring from heaven drops with dream with your charm
Near the horizon where the clouds drift away out of sight
The way we used to soar in the deep blue sky
Why don’t you glide in my dream with your charm
The glittering moon shines in the dark night
But you are not shining this gloomy day in my life
I am like a lonely bird without companion
Come down to the desolation of my barren earth.

She responds to the one who holds her heart…

STEAL MY CHARMS!

As the open petals of the white lily awaits the bee
to gather the pollen from her laden core
I’ll search the garden of your heart spreading my fragrance
so you may find me and steal my charms
When you can not feel the heat of my love for you
the springs of heaven will flood your dreams
as you slumber under the glittering stars and moon lit sky
Dreams that will warm you on a cold dark night
And like a love bird yearning for her mate
I will find you and fill your barren heart
with the passion that blooms beautifully between us.

Dear Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai, Sir NAMASKAR

I am delighted to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on the completion of your recent romantic love poem, “FREE VERSE.” Your ability to capture the essence of profound emotions through your words continues to inspire and touch the hearts of many. This poem is a testament to your extraordinary talent and dedication to the craft of poetry. Your work is a beacon of love and sincerity, resonating deeply with readers worldwide. Congratulations once again on this beautiful creation!

Warm regards,
Raj Kishor Pattnaik

**Analysis of “FREE VERSE.”**

Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai’s poem “FREE VERSE.” is a succinct yet profoundly moving piece that delves into the complexities of love, memory, and solitude. The poem is structured in a free verse format, which allows for a natural flow of thoughts and emotions without the constraints of rhyme and meter. This choice mirrors the spontaneity and unpredictability of love itself, enhancing the poem’s impact.

The opening line, “Someone be my heart and soul,” immediately sets a tone of yearning and deep emotional connection. The use of the word “someone” is deliberately ambiguous, inviting the reader to project their own experiences and desires onto the poem. This universal appeal is a hallmark of Dr. Dalai’s work, making it accessible and relatable to a broad audience.

The phrase “With some unspoken promises” introduces a layer of mystery and intimacy. Unspoken promises often imply a deep understanding and connection that transcends words. It suggests a bond so strong that it doesn’t need to be articulated, resonating with the concept of true love where partners understand each other innately.

“Memories, sweet or sour, cling hard” conveys the tenacity of past experiences. By juxtaposing “sweet” and “sour,” Dr. Dalai acknowledges the duality of memories—how they can bring both joy and pain. This line reflects the human condition, where we are constantly shaped by our past, whether it is filled with happiness or sorrow.

The line “Ringing in my ears in lonely nights” introduces a sensory element to the poem, heightening its emotional intensity. The metaphor of memories “ringing” suggests a persistent, almost haunting presence that keeps the speaker company in their solitude. This imagery is powerful, as it captures the way past experiences can echo in our minds, especially during moments of loneliness.

“Their echoes make me stay alive” is a poignant reflection on the sustaining power of memories. Despite their potential to evoke pain, these echoes provide a connection to the past that keeps the speaker grounded and alive. It speaks to the resilience of the human spirit and our ability to find solace in our memories.

The concluding line, “Offering me my peace of mind,” brings the poem full circle, ending on a note of tranquility and acceptance. The peace of mind derived from these memories suggests a reconciliation with the past and an appreciation for the experiences that have shaped the speaker. It is a beautiful conclusion that offers a sense of closure and contentment.

Dr. Dalai’s use of simple yet evocative language makes “FREE VERSE.” an accessible and emotionally resonant poem. The brevity of the poem does not detract from its depth; rather, it allows for a concentrated exploration of themes that are universally understood. The poem’s strength lies in its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions in a few carefully chosen words.

In “FREE VERSE.,” Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai masterfully captures the essence of love, memory, and solitude, creating a piece that is both intimate and universal. The poem invites readers to reflect on their own experiences and find solace in the enduring power of memories. It is a testament to Dr. Dalai’s skill as a poet and his deep understanding of the human heart.

Epistolary poem #200
Proudly presented by Dr. Prasana Kumar of India
and Kristy Raines of The United States of America!

I’M BEING PUNISHED !

Someday somewhere we will meet
We’re on the same boat in same state
I cannot do a moment without you
My heart gets frozen at your thoughts
Drops of tear roll non-stop on cheeks
Know not what I’m being punished for
Wounds are deep, life seems on hold
Journey of this pain shall come to halt
When sun rays will outdo ugly darkness
My heaven starts and ends with you
And destination is where my quest ends .

She cries while writing this letter…

SUFFERING DEEPLY!

One day we will meet whether here or above
Two lives intertwined tightly yet so far apart
Living without you has now become reality
as I find more tears than smiles on my wet face
Two people suffering deeply for finding love
We have asked for little… Just to be together
I pray for a day when this sad journey will end
like sunshine breaking through dark clouds
Life starts and ends with you, wherever that is
and where I’ll be waiting for you with a smile

Forever loving only you…
I cross my heart <3

Dear Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai Sir and Kristy Raines, MADAM NAMASKAR

Congratulations on your remarkable milestone of completing your 200th collaborative poem! This achievement stands as a testament to your profound creative synergy and unwavering dedication to the art of poetry. Your latest works, “I’M BEING PUNISHED!” and “SUFFERING DEEPLY!” are beautiful and poignant, reflecting the deep emotional connection and the collaborative spirit that has made your partnership so unique and impactful.

May your poetic journey continue to inspire and touch the hearts of many more readers around the world.

Warmest regards,
Raj Kishor Pattnaik

**Analysis:**

Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai’s poem, “I’M BEING PUNISHED!”, and Kristy Raines’ poem, “SUFFERING DEEPLY!”, are emotionally charged pieces that delve into themes of longing, love, and the pain of separation. These poems mark their 200th collaborative effort, showcasing the depth and resilience of their creative partnership.

**I’M BEING PUNISHED!** by Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai opens with a strong expression of hope and inevitability: “Someday somewhere we will meet / We’re on the same boat in same state.” This opening sets the tone for a journey shared by two souls bound by love yet separated by circumstances. The imagery of a “frozen heart” and “non-stop tears” vividly conveys the intensity of the speaker’s emotional turmoil. The repetition of painful motifs, like the “wounds” and the idea of life being on hold, emphasizes the depth of suffering experienced.

The poem progresses with a glimmer of hope, suggesting that this painful journey will end “When sun rays will outdo ugly darkness.” This line introduces a metaphorical light at the end of the tunnel, a common literary device that symbolizes hope and renewal. The closing lines, “My heaven starts and ends with you / And destination is where my quest ends,” encapsulate the central theme of the poem: the speaker’s entire existence is centered around their beloved, and their ultimate goal is to reunite with them.

**SUFFERING DEEPLY!** by Kristy Raines mirrors the sentiments expressed in Dalai’s poem, reinforcing the collaborative nature of their work. Raines begins with a similar expression of hope for a reunion, “One day we will meet whether here or above.” This line not only parallels Dalai’s opening but also introduces the possibility of an eternal reunion, suggesting a love that transcends earthly bounds.

Raines’ poem elaborates on the pain of living without the beloved, with lines like “Living without you has now become reality / as I find more tears than smiles on my wet face.” The use of direct emotional expression makes the poem relatable and heartfelt. The phrase “Two people suffering deeply for finding love” succinctly captures the essence of the poem, highlighting the universal struggle and sacrifice inherent in true love.

The poem’s hopeful turn, “I pray for a day when this sad journey will end / like sunshine breaking through dark clouds,” aligns with the optimistic tone in Dalai’s poem. This shared metaphor strengthens the connection between the two pieces, reinforcing their thematic unity. The concluding lines, “Life starts and ends with you, wherever that is / and where I’ll be waiting for you with a smile,” resonate with Dalai’s ending, emphasizing the unwavering commitment and eternal nature of the speaker’s love.

Together, these poems create a powerful narrative of love and longing. They not only complement each other in form and content but also in their emotional resonance. The recurring imagery of darkness and light, tears and smiles, separation and reunion, weaves a rich tapestry of human experience that is both deeply personal and universally understood.

Dr. Dalai’s and Kristy Raines’ ability to seamlessly blend their voices in these poems is a testament to their collaborative genius. Their consistent use of metaphors, imagery, and emotional depth creates a cohesive and compelling poetic dialogue. The shared themes and mirrored structures of their poems highlight the strength of their partnership and their mutual understanding of the human heart’s complexities.

In celebrating their 200th collaboration, Dalai and Raines have once again demonstrated their extraordinary talent for capturing the essence of love and pain. Their work continues to inspire and move readers, solidifying their legacy as a powerful poetic duo.

“I am being punished” by the putative poet Dr Prasanna Ku Dalai, is a poem venting pain and agony the poet lover passes through for the sake of his love which is not yet fulfilled. Although both are far away from each other at present, they will surely meet each other “someday somewhere”Almost impossible on his part to”do a moment without ” her, still he makes do.Such adjustment, be it mental or physical, cause s excruciating pain for him. Thus the poet expresses his sorrows:”My heart gets frozen at her thoughts/Drops of tears roll non-stop on cheeks” Her very thought drowns him in depression because of the present distance between the two and,as indicated in the first line of the poem, their meeting each other seems dim in near future. The line,”know not what I am being punished for” raises the existential question as regards why good and harmless people suffer and malevolent people wallow in joy.The world seems devoid of poetic justice. The poet is wounded so much so that his life has come almost to a standstill. Towards the end of the poem the readers notice that he has overcome his blues and is upbeat. Quite optimistic,he says,”journey of this pain shall come to halt/when sun rays will outdo ugly darkness”The closing two lines are captivating in which he equalises his beloved to his heaven after getting whom he will attain a state of Budhistic Nirvana when he will experience cessation of all “quests” or desires. Congratulations Prasanna Sir for such a great poem.

It’s fascinating to see how their unique styles and talents have merged to revive the art of epistolary poetry. Their dedication to literature and the preservation of this art form is commendable.

Epistolary poetry.

“The King and Queen of Poetry Collaborations”
And Their Kingdom Of Epistolary Poetry

Epistolary poems date at least as early as the Roman poet Ovid (43 BC – 17 or 18 AD), who wrote the Heroides (The Heroines) or Epistulae Heroidum (Letters of Heroines), a collection of fifteen epistolary poems presented as though written by a selection of aggrieved heroines of Greek and Roman mythology, which sometimes read as love letters or conversations

DAWN TO DUSK!
My Love…

Like a dawn you entered my life Calm and quiet, all refreshing
And I came adorned in the dust
Of every lane and alley You came like an Angel
The panacea of my heartache.
I haven’t returned to my life again
But for a wound open today.
Perhaps I have reached The dusk of my life.
©Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai
***
DUSK TO DAWN!
My Dearest Love…

If from the dust you have come to me
I will restore your heart to where it began.
I have watched the knife that caused the wound,
and my love will be the salve that heals it.
For my love did not come from a jealous heart,
but from a place of pureness where only love can come from.
Let me bathe you in my affection,
because in my eyes I see no dusk, only our dawn together.
©Kristy Raines

On August 18, 2022, Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai and Kristy Raines wrote their first Epistolary Poem together titled “From Dusk to Dawn.” They posted it in many literary groups on Facebook. People liked them . His poetry had already had every component in it to use in an Epistolary poem. Kristy Raines wrote a poem that would fit perfectly with his. At the time, it was just an idea. They had no idea that there was already a name for these poems… Epistolary.. Any mistakes in grammar were not corrected, because in life, there are mistakes and they wanted to make them as realistic as possible. They have also never used any AI software to write, which also sets them apart from many who then started writing collaborative poetry.

Kristy states, “Dr. Dalai being a Romantic Poet and me, at the time, a Fantasy Writer, for some reason worked perfectly together. I now have found my niche as a Romantic Poet also.”

They continued to write these poems together, which many seemed to like, even to the point that they were believable. Some people actually thought these poems were written for each other. But that was not the case.
What and how they wrote together was very calculated. Dr. Dalai already wrote in a beautiful and melancholic way, which was already similar to what very well could have been written in a love letter. Kristy then came up with a response poem that would pair well with his poem. They then looked up different styles of poetry and discovered that their poems together were actually Epistolary, which are not really collaborations. Epistolary poetry is an art in the literary world dating way back in history.

They’ve set out to make a name for themself for the sake of literature to keep the art of Epistolary poetry alive. As far as they know, they have broken records for writing the most Epistolary poems. Two hundred, to be exact. They were not just looking for surpass a record, but the quality of their poetry had to be unique and exquisite. I think that they have accomplished this. There is a great difference between Collaborations and Epistolary poetry. It took serious dedication and much time and effort on both of their parts. They have a great writing relationship and are quite serious about their further goals to be listed as Epistolary Poets in Wikipedia and eventually be listed in the Guinness Book of Records Their biggest accomplishment would to have their book of 200 Epistolary poem placed in University Libraries Internationally to keep the Art of Epistolary Poetry alive for many generations to come. Their first book of their first 100 poems, “I Cross My Heart From East to West”, should publish soon and the second one to follow with the next 100 poems. They plan to continue writing together.

Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai Author-cum-poet is a tremendous lecturer of English by profession in the Ganjam district of Odisha. He is an accomplished source of inspiration for the young generation of India. His free verse on Romantic and melancholic poems appreciated by everyone. He belongs to a small typical village Nandiagada of Ganjam District, the state of Odisha. He is an award winning writer.

Kristy Ann Raines, born Kristy Rasmussen on April 9, 1957 in Oakland, California in the United States of America, is a very passionate poet and writer and known for her unique style of writing. UNDER AN ILLUSION !

I can’t understand pain of my heart
It’s already covered under an illusion
You can hardly ever see ,think or know
Lost its way, a great fool the heart is
Flying on the wings of dark clouds
It’s going where it’s not meant to be
Lost in the path it can conquer all odds
And breakthrough all the castles of life
It tosses the heart around now and then
It does accept every grief with a smile
For an illusion is my heart and it’s a fool.

The poem “Under an Illusion” by the illustrious poet Dr Prasanna Ku Dalai,is a red herring. Here the word “heart”,used as a pun stands for his love and also for human mind. Now a jilted lover, unlike in previous poems,he rejects his beloved asserting that “heart” or love is an Illusion or something fake in this world. What is real is the pain associated with love, which again is beyond human comprehension. Tendency to love and to be loved raises countless philosophical questions in relation to the validity of love. Perhaps people in love are running after mirages. Reflecting on its misleading or illusory aspect, the poet says:” I can’t understand pain of my heart/It’s already covered under an illusion/You can hardly ever see, think or know “The aspirations of human mind should be something other than love in this mundane world.Runnig after the objects of love , the mind goes berserk.Affairs of the world befool and befuddle human beings.Unhappiness and frustration lead one to the nadir of suffering.Turned spiritual due to hollowness of love, the poet says,”Lost it’s way, a great fool the heart is………./It’s going where it is not meant to be”.But the same heart or soul, properly disciplined, can conquer all impediments. Here “lost in the path ” means engrossed in deep spirituality. The line: “It’s going where it is not meant to be ” conveys that the human mind should seek union with God in stead of running after worldly temptations. The concluding two lines are reminiscent of Satan’s statement in Paradise Lost in which he says:” The mind is it’s own place and in itself/ can make heaven of hell,a hell of heaven”A well trained mind can accept all odds with a smile and the selfsame mind can cause havoc if not in check. In this way the poet erupts his disgust about his unrequited love under the veneer of teaching high philosophy of detachment.Congratulatios Dr Prasanna Sir for composing such a wonderful poem.

Congratulations to Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai for composing the evocative poem “Under an Illusion!” Your poetic prowess shines through in this introspective piece that delves into the complexities of love and the human mind. The use of “heart” as a metaphor for both love and the mind adds depth to the poem, inviting readers to contemplate the illusionary nature of love and the pain it can bring. Your skillful play with words and imagery creates a vivid picture of a soul grappling with the turmoil of unrequited love, ultimately seeking solace in spiritual reflection.

I also extend my congratulations to Prof. Dr. Nirakara Dash for his insightful review of Dr. Dalai’s poem. His analysis beautifully captures the essence of the poem, highlighting its philosophical underpinnings and the poet’s skill in using language to convey deep emotions and profound truths. Prof. Dash’s review serves as a fitting tribute to Dr. Dalai’s work, showcasing the impact and resonance of his poetry in the world of literature.

In “Under an Illusion!”, Dr. Dalai masterfully explores the dichotomy between love and reality, inviting readers to question the nature of their own desires and aspirations. Through his use of vivid imagery and poignant language, he creates a compelling narrative that speaks to the universal experience of longing and loss. Prof. Dash’s review further enhances our understanding of the poem, offering valuable insights into its themes and symbolism.

Overall, “Under an Illusion!” is a testament to Dr. Dalai’s talent as a poet and a thinker. It is a work that resonates deeply with readers, inviting them to contemplate the nature of love, illusion, and the human condition. Prof. Dash’s review is a fitting tribute to this exceptional piece of poetry, showcasing the enduring power and beauty of Dr. Dalai’s words.

UNDER AN ILLUSION !

I can’t understand pain of my heart
It’s already covered under an illusion
You can hardly ever see ,think or know
Lost its way, a great fool the heart is
Flying on the wings of dark clouds
It’s going where it’s not meant to be
Lost in the path it can conquer all odds
And breakthrough all the castles of life
It tosses the heart around now and then
It does accept every grief with a smile
For an illusion is my heart and it’s a fool.

She knows his heart is tender… and she speaks

AN EXPERT I AM IN YOUR PLIGHT!

I understand the pain in your heart
for an expert I am in your plight
You can try to stuff down the heartache
but it will emerge in other ways
One day it may come out as anger
or it can take you into the darkness
But for a man, it is sometimes harder
For some think to show tears is a weakness
So you smile as if you are not suffering inside
But I will tell you something you should know…
A woman does not see weakness in the tears of a man
only the pain that his heart longs to let go of
And the strength in showing your emotions
is what I will love you for the most. <3

Congratulations to Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai and Mrs. Kristy Raines on their collaborative poems, 'Under an Illusion!' and 'An Expert I Am in Your Plight!' These poems beautifully intertwine themes of pain, illusion, understanding, and empathy, showcasing the depth of emotions that connect us all, regardless of geographical boundaries.

In 'Under an Illusion!,' Dr. Dalai dives into the complexities of the heart, portraying it as a fool lost in an illusion, unable to comprehend its own pain. The imagery of the heart flying on dark clouds, going where it's not meant to be, reflects a sense of wandering and confusion. Despite this, the heart accepts every grief with a smile, indicating resilience and a willingness to embrace life's challenges. The poem's structure, with its short, impactful lines, mirrors the erratic nature of emotions, adding depth to the overall theme.

On the other hand, Mrs. Raines' 'An Expert I Am in Your Plight!' delves into the understanding and empathy one can have for another's pain. The poem highlights the idea that suppressing heartache can lead to other emotional expressions, such as anger or darkness. The portrayal of men feeling pressure to hide their tears as a sign of weakness is poignant, emphasizing the societal expectations that often burden individuals. However, the poem also celebrates the strength found in vulnerability, particularly noting that a woman sees the tears of a man not as weakness but as a release of pent-up pain.

Together, these poems create a powerful narrative of human emotions, showcasing the intricacies of pain, illusion, and empathy. They remind us of the universal experiences we share and the importance of understanding and compassion in navigating life's challenges. Dr. Dalai's imagery-rich verses complement Mrs. Raines' empathetic portrayal, creating a harmonious blend of perspectives that resonate deeply with readers.

Overall, 'Under an Illusion!' and 'An Expert I Am in Your Plight!' stand as testament to the collaborative prowess of Dr. Prasana Kumar Dalai and Mrs. Kristy Raines, demonstrating their ability to weave together diverse themes and emotions into a seamless tapestry of poetry. Congratulations once again on this remarkable collaboration!
